Back-to-School Vibes: Yay or Ugh?

With school quickly approaching, you might notice your teen is not themselves.

The transition from summer to school can stir up all sorts of feelings.

But here’s the secret: instead of the usual parental reaction, let’s try a little detective work.

Imagine yourself as Sherlock Holmes, on a mission to understand what’s up.

You might find that they’re feeling overwhelmed by upcoming responsibilities.

Maybe they’re anxious about facing new teachers and academic challenges.

The thought of early mornings and a jam-packed schedule could be causing some serious dread.

And hey, if they’re worried about fitting in, that’s completely normal too.

The real trick? Digging deeper into why they’re not quite themselves.

My clients in Sweden shared that their daughter said, “I don’t want to go to school.”

While a natural response could have been dismissive, I coached them to ask her, “What’s bugging you about school?”

By being open and curious, they found out she was feeling awkward about boys discussing sex.

Understanding her real concern let them tackle the issue head-on.

Remember, embracing curiosity can help ease tensions, lift your teen’s spirits, and bring you closer together.
