Read this to learn how to stop your kid’s attitude.
What do you do when your teenager cops an attitude?
Most of us yell some version of, “You can’t talk to me like that!”
You might even threaten to take their phone away if they don’t apologize.
Does that work for you? I doubt it.
It doesn’t make it better because you’re focused on the wrong problem.
What do I mean by that?
First, I want you to tell yourself,
I am not a bad parent.
Everyone gets frustrated when their kid is disrespectful.
I was never taught an effective way to cope with this.
Okay. Deep breath.
Now, let’s look at why our kids have an attitude in the first place.
Something is going on inside of them that doesn’t feel good.
Maybe they’re thinking, I’m so stupid and feel embarrassed.
Maybe they’re thinking, why doesn’t anyone like me and feel rejected.
Maybe they’re thinking, I don’t want to do this and feel overwhelmed.
They don’t want to feel embarrassed, rejected, or overwhelmed.
But they don’t know how to handle their feelings.
So they lash out and word vomit on you.
It is their inability to cope with their feelings that cause their attitude.
And they don’t know how to ask you for help with that.
So when you want their attitude to disappear, help them with their feelings.
If you don’t know how to do that, you’re not alone, and I can help you.
Book a complimentary consultation today, and by next week, you’ll stop hearing,
“Get out of my room!”
“I don’t want to talk to you!”
“You’re so annoying!”
How would that feel?
