How to Coach Your Brain to Get What You Want

Coach Mindset.jpeg

A few weeks ago, my heart was racing and my stomach was doing somersaults. I wanted to post a video on social media to help people, but I was too scared to take action.

I was thinking about what other people might think of me. What if they don’t want to listen to what I have to say? What if I look awkward? Am I going to humiliate myself?

These toxic thoughts created a feeling of fear. That fear hurt my heart and stomach, and I was frozen with inaction—not doing what I really wanted to do.

The holy grail of coaching your brain is to understand that your thoughts, feelings, and actions are all interconnected.

The key to creating the outcome you desire is to connect with why you want that outcome. When you push yourself to do something without understanding why you really want to do it, you rarely create the result you want. On the off chance you do, it is an exhausting process.

Focusing on why you want a certain outcome also creates the opportunity for you to detach from the results of that outcome and just enjoy the process.

For me, what I really wanted was to help people feel less stressed, more in control of their lives, and consequently, feel happier.

I realized that my thoughts were about me and my fears, and I wasn’t creating the outcome I desired.

By thinking about why I wanted to share on social media, I coached my brain to come up with a new and more empowering thought.

I started thinking about how great it would feel if my words helped just one person. This thought created feelings of excitement, confidence, and motivation. Then, I was able to create the result that I wanted: showing up on social media providing helpful tools and techniques.

This methodology works anytime you are not getting the results you desire. For example:

  • When you don’t lose the weight you want, connect to why you really want to lose weight—maybe it’s because you want to enjoy exercising and living a healthy lifestyle.

  • When you do not have the relationship you want with your spouse, think about why you really want things to be different—maybe it’s because you want to feel excited about sharing the next chapter of life.

  • When you don’t have the financial success you desire, think about why you want more income—maybe it’s because you want to spend more time with your family.

After you identify why you want a certain outcome, think about a thought, feeling, and action that would honor that result right now.

When you feel your heart pounding or your stomach turning, that’s your body telling you the thoughts in your mind are creating unnecessary frustration, worry, or fear. You have the power to create new thoughts, which will change how you are feeling and give you new and improved results.
