How to Enjoy Life with Your Young Adult Today
These are my children.
They are three happy, thriving, independent, and confident young adults.
I was inspired to write this blog after receiving a group family text. The kids took screenshots of some of my blog posts and commented on the titles:
What to Do When Your Son is Acting Reckless
“Mom, roasting me again.”
How to Stop Being Annoyed by Your Son’s Lack of Progress
“I know I’m only a lifeguard, but I’m gunning for the promotion to head lifeguard soon.”
How to Help Your Struggling Daughter
“Guys, let me know when you reach this level of heat.”
I couldn’t stop laughing.
But it wasn’t that long ago that this would not have been their response to reading my blogs.
Anxiety, stress, and lack of confidence were just a few of the issues my kids faced during their teen years.
Academic pressure about grades, a skewed version of the world from social media, and exposure to sex, drugs, and alcohol were all part of the world they knew.
I was constantly scared, worried, and exhausted as I tried to navigate these parenting challenges.
I tightened the reins to try to control the situation, which caused anger, friction, and disconnection.
Eventually, I realized there had to be a better way.
I was ready to change my approach.
It was five years ago when I discovered the principles of Life Coaching and learned a different way to talk to my kids and retrain my negative thought patterns.
Our productive conversations began again because I listened to them in a new way.
Our connection grew as I channeled curiosity and non-judgment.
Their confidence blossomed because I began trusting their ability to make good choices.
My house became calm.
I felt less worried and exhausted.
We got back to the carefree joy we’d experienced in earlier days.
This is possible for you too.
You can have the peaceful house that you want.
You can have the relationship with your son or daughter that you imagine.
You can enjoy your life with them today.
By looking at life through a different lens and changing the conversation, this is possible.
