Why does parenting feel so hard?

Why does parenting feel so hard?

When your child is not being the best version of themselves and nothing you are trying is working, you might feel

inadequate
ashamed
beaten down

and want to give up.

Listen. You are not alone.

You want your child to be kind, respectful, and compassionate.
You want them to fulfill their potential.
You want them to thrive, be happy, and experience a full life.

You care so much because parenting is the most important job you will ever have.

And you expect yourself to get it “right” all the time.

Yet, it’s the job you have the least training for.

You don’t attempt to program a computer, litigate in court, play a professional sport, or perform brain surgery without years of education and training.

Yet, you think you should know how to be the perfect parent “naturally.”

Do you see the absurdity?

Parenting is mentally, physically, and emotionally draining.

And you are showing up and doing it every day with little to no help and no instruction manual.

On those hard days, give yourself some grace.

Know you are doing the best job you can with the knowledge you have.

Know your intention is to help your child be the best version of themselves.

Know you have a big heart filled with compassion, tenderness, and love.

And that’s enough.
