Congratulations! You’ve been promoted!
Have you noticed that when you offer your teen advice, they stop listening to you?
You’ve got many useful suggestions for how they can improve their study habits, but they don’t want to do it your way.
Or try something new.
It’s not because they aren’t interested in getting better grades.
Or because they are being rude.
Or because you aren’t full of wisdom.
They aren’t interested in your advice because of the way you are talking to them.
Your teenager is in a huge transition, and so are you.
Your role has evolved from manager to CEO.
Think of it as a promotion.
Great leaders ask powerful questions and are active listeners.
Great leaders believe you are capable and allow you to develop your own solutions.
So when you want your teen to listen like they used to, change your approach.
Less micromanaging, more leading.
Your teen resolves their own problems while you provide a safety net, a soft landing when they fall.
As you embody your new leadership role, a huge weight lifts off your shoulders.
You don’t do everything because you trust your teen is capable.
They might not make the best choices, but you allow them to grow and learn.
When you lead, they communicate more.
Your worry decreases, and your trust increases.
And the meaningful connection you desire will be a reality.
Congratulations on your promotion!
You’re the right person for the job.

P.S. I resisted making this transition and experienced many frustrating and tear-filled days. Don’t make the mistake I did and wait any longer. I am here to help you.
